Devprayag Travel Guide (Char Dham)

Devprayag (Deoprayag or Dev Prayag) is a small town in the Pauri Garhwal District of Uttarakhand near Rishikesh. Devprayag is situated at a height of 2,700 feet, famous as the place where the River Ganga first takes its form - resulting from the confluence ("sangam") of the Bhagirathi and the Alaknanda Rivers.

The town has been named Devprayag after a sage named Dev Sharma, lived and meditated here and is beleived to have got a glimpse of the Almighty. Also reputed to have a "10,000 years old" temple of Lord Ram called Raghunathji Temple which is pyramidal in shape. Lord Rama and King Dashrath are also believed to have did penance here. Baitalshila is a bath at Devprayag that can cure leprosy.

• Chandrabadani Temple: The Chandrabadani Temple at Devprayag is dedicated to the Goddess of Shakti / Power. Outside the temple one can find many old staues and iron Trishuls. One can get beautiful views of the Kedarnath and Badrinath peak from here
• Raghunathji Temple : The Raghunathji Temple, dedicated to Lord Ram, is believed to be one of the oldest temples in India. The temple is pyramidal in shape and made of stone.
• Suspension Bridges: There are many bridges all around the Devprayag town.

Location : Devprayag lies at an altitude of 472 m, on Rishikesh-Badrinath route, about 75 Km from Rishikesh.

Air : The nearest airport is the Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun, at 93 Km. One can get taxis and buses from Dehradun to reach Devprayag.

Rail : Rishikesh, at 76 Km, is the nearest railhead. Taxis and buses are available from Rishikesh to move to Devprayag.
