Devprayag Travel Guide (Char Dham)

Devprayag is also known as Deoprayag, it is a small town which is situated near Rishikesh in the district of Pauri Garhwal of Uttarakhand state. It is situated at an elevation of 2,700 ft. above sea level. It is one of the most places oof Uttarakhand. This place is famous as the place where the holy river Ganga first takes its form from the confluence of the two holy rivers that are the Bhagirathi river and Alakananda River.

Devprayag is the seat of the Pandits of the most popular and sacred Badrinath temple. The name Devprayag is the combination of two words which are “ Dev” which means Human’s God and “ Prayag” which means confluence.

The bathing ghat at Devprayag is developed with the multiple levels of accommodating different water levels during the season of monsoon. It is also a sacred and pilgrimage place in Uttarakhand state.

People said that baitalshila is a bath at Deoprayag which can cure many diseases. You can also take a holy dip into the  bathing ghat of Deoprayag. The adventure lover can enjoy the adventurous white water river rafting, Kayaking, Rock climbing, Rappelling and Trekking.

Mythology/ Importance of Devprayag

This sacred town has its name Devprayag after a sage named Dev Sharma, who lived and meditate here and he is believed to have got a glimpse of the Almighty.

It is believed that the hindu Lord Rama and his Father Dashrath have did penance here. The place has 10,000 years old temple of Lord Ram which is known as Raghunathji Temple. The shape of the temple is pyramidal.

  • Raghunathji Temple : The Raghunathji Temple, dedicated to Lord Ram, is believed to be one of the oldest temples in India. The temple is pyramidal in shape and made of stone.

  • Dashrathshila:-  In Treta- Yug, Raja Dashrath father of Hindu Lord Rama did penance in this place. The seat of Dashrath which is a small hillock called as Dashrathachal Peak.
