Phata Travel Guide (Char Dham)

Phata is a small village located on the Gopeshar - Gaurkund Road in the Rudraprayag District of Uttarakhand state of India. Phata is at an altitude of 1500 mts and famous for its helipad, which is used by many pilgrims visiting Kedarnath Temple. Some pilgrims stop here to take a break during their journey because it is an ideal destination to get refreshments and overnight stay.

It is also a center point for many famous destinations so travelers or tourists who can enjoy or witness the culture of Uttarakhand, they can visit various popular destination connected to this place.

This place is famous for having an open ground that is being used as a helipad by the helicopter service provider companies. This open ground is located at a distance of 32 kms from the main temple of Kedarnath.

Kedarnath Shrine Pawan Hans has resumed its Helicopter Services to Kedarnath from Phata, The Phata helipad is located beyond Agustmuni and is also linked by a good motorable road on the way to Kedarnath.

PHHL has made it convenient for pilgrims to visit the Kedarnath Ji shrine at a reasonable ticket cost of Rs.7000 Plus Service Tax Rs. 310, Beside priority darshan Charges Rs.1100 for Same Day passengers. Devotees would get one hour thirty minutes at Kedarnath for darshan.

Places To Visit In Phata

  • Augustmuni:- Augustmuni is a small town in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand in India. It is situated on the Mandakini river and is 18 km. from Rudraprayag. 
  • Chopta:- This place is popularly known as ‘Mini Switzerland’ in Uttaranchal and Northern India. Chopta is rich in varied flora and fauna. Chopta is situated amidst thick forest of pine, deodar and rhododendrons
  • Tungnath:- It is the highest temple of Hindu Lord Shiva. It is a one of the five temple which comes under the Panch kedar circuit.
  • Kedarnath:– It is one of the most popular temples in Uttarakhand. It comes under the Chota Chardham circuit. Pilgrims have to trek 16 km to visit this holy temple.
  • Chandrashila Trek:– Chandrashila trek is started from Chopta. This trek offers you the beautiful view of some snow covered mountains.
  • Dugalbitta:– Dugal Bitta means the space of location between the two mountains. It is a part of Kedaarnath Wildlife Sanctuary and it is a natural treasure itself.
  • Gaurikund Temple: This is dedicated to the Hindu Goddess Parvati who is the wife of the Hindu Lord Shiva. In this temple pilgrims offers their prayers. Pilgrims on their way or yatra to Kedarnath Temple makes it a point to stop here to visit this holy religious temple.
  • Gauri Kund: This Kund is also known as Gauri Lake, the Lake of Compassion or Parvati Sarovar, Hindu people consider this lake as a sacred lake and believes that this is the lake where Goddess Parvati had breathed life into Lord Ganesha.
  • Sitapur:Sitapur is located just 7 kms from Gaurikund and 26 kms from Guptkashi on-road towards Kedarnath. Sitapur can be a good place to halt during heavy seasons for Char Dham Yatra.
  • Sonprayag:– It is situated on the confluence of twon sacred rivers which are Mandakini and Vasuki river. This place is located on the route of Kedarnath Temple.
  • Guptkashi:– It is famous for the ancient Vishwanath Temple – dedicated to god Shiva – similar to the one in Varanasi (Kashi). Its religious importance is considered next to that of Varanasi, believed to be the most pious of all Hindu pilgrimage places.
  • Ukhimath:- Ukhimath is a pilgrimage site in Uttarakhand, at an elevation of 1311 metres and at a distance of 41 km from Rudraprayag. It is the home or winter seat of the idol of Kedarnath Temple and Madhyamaheshwar.
  • Chamoli:Chamoli is the largest districts in Uttarakhand and a town located on Rishikesh-Badrinath Highway. It is situated at a height of 1300 m above from the sea level.  The land of Chamoli is said to be a  favorite of Lord Shiva.
  • Gopeshwar:- Gopeshwar is a township and the headquarters of Chamoli district of Uttarakhand state of India. It is situated at an altitude of 1550 m above the sea level.

Phata is around 50 kms from Augustmuni enroute to Kedarnath and 18 kms before of Gaurikund. The distance from Gaurikund to Kedarnath is 14 kms. By providing the facility of helicopter services from Phata, the flying time has been reduced to 20 minutes for a round trip (Phata – Kedarnath – Phata).

How To Reach Phata

Phata well connected by motorable roads but the place does not have any airports and railway stations. You can easily travel here by using public transport as well as by driving your own vehicle.

Route 1:- Delhi – Phata via Haridwar

By Road:– Phata is well connected by motorable roads from Delhi. There are many regular buses available for travelling to Phata from Delhi via Haridwar. You can also drive your car to travel Phata.

Phata does not have any railway station & its own airport. Tourists can reach Haridwar via train then hire taxi, cab or local bus to reach Phata. It will take approximately 7 hours to reach Phata.

Route 2:- Delhi – Phata via Dehradun
By Road:– Phata is well connected by motorable roads from Delhi. There are many regular buses available for traveling to Phata from Delhi via Dehradun. You can also drive your car to travel Phata.
